THE LAND WHERE THE LOTUS BLOOMS

この作品は、フタロシアニンブルーの持っている「水底表現力」を最大限に発揮させてみたいと思って作りました。この色は、アクリル絵具の中でも最も透明度の高いグループに入り、既に描いたものの上にこの色を重ねると、まるで水底に沈んだような表現になります。この色を淡めに溶いて塗り重ねていくのですが、塗り重ねる回数によって、浅い水底から深い、深海のような表現まで、自在に作りだすことが可能です。
この作品では、かつて太平洋にあったといわれる大陸「ムー」の巨大な街を「沈めて」みました。別に、アトランティスでもよかったのですが……ただ、青の上に描かれた「宇宙文字」が「ムー」のことを現わしているそうなので、ムーにしました。「蓮の華咲く地」とは、ムーの、かつての呼び名だったそうです。
それで、この「宇宙文字」なのですが、これは、G.H.ウィリアムスンというアメリカのコンタクトマンの著書『宇宙語・宇宙人』からとったものです。ウィリアムスンは、この分野では著名なG.アダムスキーと一時期、活動を共にしており、アダムスキーがアメリカ西部のモハベ砂漠で金星人オーソンと会見したとき（この会見は有名です）、一緒にいたそうです。彼は、会見が終わってオーソンの宇宙船が空に消えたとき、砂漠の砂の上にくっきりと残されたふしぎな足跡を見つけ、それを石膏型に取りました（石膏を持参していたというのがなんともふしぎですが）。後で、その模様を調べてみると、なんとそれは文字（宇宙文字）で、ムー大陸の沈没のことなどが書かれていたそうです。なお、彼によると、宇宙文字はインディアンの絵文字そっくりなんだそうで、「先住民と宇宙人のつながり」というのは、ずいぶん昔からあったことになります。
私は、この物語に惹かれました。まあ、今でいう「宇宙考古学」のはしりみたいなもので、ウィリアムスン博士は、あの想像のキャラクターである「インディ・ジョーンズ」のモデルになった人物であるともいわれます。で、とにかく彼の『宇宙語・宇宙人』という本は、ちょっと類書のないようなおもしろい本です。宇宙友好協会の出版で翻訳があるのですが、むろん絶版で、古本でも滅多に手に入らない希覯本になっています。

The color, phthalocyanine blue, has the effect that expresses so that there is an object at the bottom of the water. I wanted to let this color show that effect with this work to the maximum. This color belongs to the group having highest transparency in acrylic paints. So, if I paint this color on what was already drawn, I'll be able to get the effect that already drawn parts are like under the water. I dissolve this color thin and paint and repeat it, and if there is little number of times to repeat, I will gain a pale blue, if many times, I will gain a deep blue. I dissolve this color thin and paint and repeat it, and if there is little number of times to repeat, I will gain a pale blue like the shallow bottom, if many times, I will gain a deep blue like the deep sea. In this way, I can make the various depth of the water with only this color.
With this work, I attempted to "sink" a huge town of continent "Mu" said to have been in the Pacific once. I could chose Atlantis also……But I did it in Mu because "character from space" drawn on blue layer seemed to show "Mu". "The land where the lotus blooms" seemed to be the name of Mu in ancient time.
And, about this "character from space", I took these characters from the book "Other tongue-Other fresh" (1953) by George Hunt Williamson. G. H. Williamson was a contact-man between people of Earth and people of outer space. In this field, most famous is George Adamski maybe. G. H. Williamson shared activity with George Adamski at a certain time. According to this book, he was in the same place with Adamski when Adamski had met a person( called ”Orthon”) from Venus. This meeting was very famous. But it was not well known that Orthon had left some massages in his foot print. Williamson had recognized Orthon's mysterious foot print after he had backed to the space by his flying saucer. He modeled the pattern of alien's shoes in gypsum. (I think it was also mysterious that Williamson already had gypsum at that meeting.) And he studied that pattern, he discover that the pattern was the letter which was told about the submergence of Mu mainly. In addition, according to his book, the character of outer space was similar to that of indigenous people in America. Now, some people say the resemblance between "space civilization" and "the civilization of indigenous people", but I think that Williamson talked about it earliest (in the 1950s).
I was attracted to his story so much. I think his story would be a study in "space archeology" now. But in his times, there were no word as such convenient one. Dr. Williamson was a pioneer of that field, and it is said about him that he was the model of Indiana Jones in movie. Anyway, his "Other tongue-Other fresh" is very interesting book which has no similar book still now. As for this book, the whole sentence is shown on the Internet now.
