「チゼルポイント」とは、ドリルの先端のたがね状になった直線部分を意味します。この部分は、ドリルを被切削物に当てた場合、切削作用を行わないので、ここがあまりに広すぎるとドリル全体のスピンドル推力が低下して、切削能力が落ちてしまう結果となります。したがって、職人さんがお店でドリルを買ってきてもすぐそのまま使うことはなく、まずこのチゼルポイントを自分の好みのかたちに研ぎ落とすことからはじめるそうで、これにより、スピンドル推力は、最大で30％も増加するといいます。ゆえに、この「チゼルポイントの研ぎ落とし」は、非常に大事な作業といえます。

"chizelpoint" means the straight line part of the tip of the drill. If this "chiselpoint" is too wide, a spindle thrust of the whole drill would be decreased, because this part has not cutting ability. Therefore, when a craftsman buys a drill in a shop, he dose not use it immediately. At first he begins abrasion of the "chiselpoint" of the drill in one's favorite form. And, by this work, spindle thrusts of the drill are said to increase up to 30%. Therefore, it may be said that this abrasion of the "chiselpoint" is very important work.
