この作品も、「天の門」や「地の門」と同じく、自分で撮った写真から作りました。元は、小さな水たまりに浮かんで流れる油膜の描きだすパターンですが、それを写真に撮り、モノクロコピー機にかけて陰影を強調し、さらにそれをスライドフィルムに撮影し、キャンバスに映写して鉛筆で輪郭をデッサンし、色を塗りました。今ならPCで簡単にできてしまう作業ですが、PCのない時代にはこんなややこしいことも……色彩は、フタロシアニンブルー一色です。
「地球創成」というタイトルは、「生命源」と同じく喜多郎さんのアルバムの中の曲名から。油膜が流れていくパターンが、なんとなく地球という遊星が生まれて、かたちを成していくプロセスに似ているような気がしてこのタイトルになりました。別に深い意味はないのですが……ただ、流体力学的な現象の現われ方では、なんとなく共通しているような気もします……流体はふしぎで、そのパターンは、なにか、生命の誕生にもつながっていくような趣も感じられます。

I made this work from a photo which I took, in the same way as "A Celestial Gate" or "A Terrestrial Gate ". The model of this work was a oil slick which floats in the small puddle. I took the pattern of oil slick to a photograph and I process it to a monochromatic copier and emphasized light and shadow. Next, I took it to a photograph again, and I made a slide film, and projected expansion on a canvas, and traced the pattern that appeared there with a pencil, and colored it. These a series of processes is easy to do with a PC now, but there were no PC which could do these work at that times. I used only one color, phthalocyanine blue.
About the title, "Earth Born", I took this from the name of a tune composed by Kitaro, like the case of "LIfe Origin". I felt that the process that the planet Earth was born and made form resembled the pattern that an oil slick flowed. So I chose this title to this picture. There is not a deep meaning here, but I think the hydrodynamic phenomenon is common to both. The fluid is mysterious. I subtly feel that the pattern of the infinite variety of fluid is connected with the birth of life.
