昔、住んでいた名古屋市守山区の自宅の庭にて撮影。この作品は、しばらく自宅の玄関に飾っておいた。日本では、なぜかお米屋さんが灯油の販売店も兼ねているところが多く、ある日、灯油を持ってきたお米屋さんのおじさんが、この私の作品をしげしげと見て一言。「俺の弟も、今、アメリカで美術をやっとる。」へー、そうなんですかぁ？……といろいろ聞いていくうちに、その弟さんのお名前が判明。荒川修作。えっ！？　あのアラカワさん？　まさか……しかし、そのまさかであった。お米屋さんの名前は松原さんというので姓がちがう。でも、やっぱりあのアラカワさんなんだ……すげー……って、なにがすごいのかわかりませんが、出会いというのはふしぎなもんです。

I took this photograph in old days in a home garden of Moriyama-ku, Nagoya-shi where I lived in. This work was displayed in the home entrance for a while. In Japan, a rice dealer often sells kerosene for some reason. So, one day, a man, past middle age, of the rice dealer who came delivering kerosene, looked hard at this picture and said as follows. "Also my younger brother, is artist now in America". Ah, so……and what is his name? His name? Shusaku Arakawa. Eh! Shusaku Arakawa? By any chance, you mean THAT Shusaku Arakawa? Yes, of course he is. The rice dealer's first name is Matsubara. But after all it is that Arakawa……Great……Hey, I don't know what is great, but the encounter is a mysterious.
